On March 25, 2026, major global shipping companies simultaneously announced the resumption of booking services between the Far East and the Middle East. This coordinated restart of related businesses by multiple shipping giants signifies a continued de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East and a significant improvement in the navigation environment around the Strait of Hormuz, creating the basic conditions for safe cargo passage.

It is understood that the Strait of Hormuz was forced to close due to the escalating conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran, resulting in a complete disruption of container shipping in the Middle East for 21 days, significantly impacting the global supply chain. This resumption of shipping has extraordinary strategic significance.

It is worth noting that the resumption of shipping services is not a simple restart of traditional direct routes, but rather a more cautious and secure multimodal transport model. The announcement explicitly states that direct passage through the Strait of Hormuz is currently not permitted. To ensure service continuity, shipping companies will employ a "sea freight to ports outside the Strait + land transshipment" model. According to subsequent corrections from COSCO Shipping, local cargo from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali ports can be transported via bonded land bridges to Holfekam or Fujairah ports. Cargo from other Gulf countries will first be transported through these two ports to Abu Dhabi terminals, and then connected to the feeder network for transshipment to their destination countries. Cargo from Oman will be transshipped via Mumbai New Port in India to Sohar Port in Oman. A mature and secure segmented transport solution has been fully implemented.
