Uses and functions of cetostearyl alcohol(C16-18) in detergents
Cetostearyl alcohol is mainly used as a thickener, emulsifier, conditioner and stabilizer in detergents (such as shampoo, shower gel, facial cleanser, etc.).
1. Main functions
(1) Thickening & improving fluidity
Adjust the consistency of the detergent to make it easier to spread and less likely to drip (such as shampoo, shower gel). Make the product have a "thick but not sticky" texture to enhance consumer experience.
(2) Stabilize foam & reduce irritation
When compounded with anionic surfactants (such as SLS/SLES), it can enhance the durability and fineness of the foam. By forming a micellar structure, it reduces the direct irritation of surfactants to the skin and scalp.
(3) Emulsification (for detergents containing oil formulas)
In cleansing oil-type cleansers or oily scalp shampoos, it helps the oil phase components to be evenly dispersed in the water phase to prevent stratification.
(4) Conditioning & Softening Effects
Conditioner/2-in-1 Shampoo: Forms a hydrophobic film on the hair, reduces damage to the hair scales, and makes the hair smoother

3. Notes
Additional amount: usually 0.5%~5%. Excessive amount may make the product sticky or difficult to rinse.
Solubility: It needs to be heated to 60~70℃ to dissolve in the oil phase, and then mixed with the water phase for emulsification.
