Colorless liquid. Melting point -58.2 ℃. Boiling point 130.6 ℃. Density 0.9487g/cm3 (20 ℃). Miscible with alcohol and ether. Insoluble in water. It has a mint aroma. Easy to polymerize, especially in the presence of trace acids. Prepared by heating adipic acid in the presence of barium hydroxide. Used as an intermediate in medicine, spices, synthetic rubber, and pesticides.
